IntraHealth International Tanzania Office is implementing a five-year project (2016 – 2021) named Tohara Plus Project for “Accelerating the Scale- up of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) for HTV prevention for Maximum Public Health Impact in the United Republic of Tanzania, under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)”. This project is funded by PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

IntraHealth International Tanzania office is soliciting applications from suitable candidates to fill in one (1) vacant position of Capacity Building and Mentorship Advisorfor IntraHealthToharaPlus Project. This positionwill be based in Mwanza region.

The Capacity Building and Mentorship Advisorwill oversee capacity building of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) and Early Infant Male Circumcision (EIMC) providers per National, PEPFAR and WHO standardsand create a peer-to-peer learning platform to reinforce quality of services.He/She will be responsibleto provide technicaloversight during implementation of the Tohara plus training,post training follow-up, mentorship and coaching plan in the supported districts to expand the pool of VMMC/EIMC providers that meet more than minimal competency requirements for provision of quality and safe VMMC/EIMC services. In addition, the Capacity building and mentorship Advisorwill play a leading role in designing and implementing the competency auditing of VMMC/EIMC providers to ensure that clients are receiving safe and quality VMMC/EIMC services. He/she will also be responsible to maintain an up-to- date VMMC/EIMC provider’s database for performance monitoring and reporting; and document best practices and lessons learned in implementing VMMC/EIMC capacity building and mentorship initiatives.


  • Coordinate capacity building of regional, district and facility staff to ensure delivery of high quality and efficient VMMC and EIMC services. 
  • Coordinate and supervise competency-based auditing and performance reassessment to identify competent VMMC/EIMC providers and organized targeted intensive clinical mentorships and coaching on the identified gaps to ensure all providers have required knowledge and practical skills and adhere to WHO/PEPFAR and National guidelines and standards. 
  • Supervise preparation and implementation of the Tohara plus training plan to equip HCWs with knowledge and skills to provide quality VMMC/EIMC services. 
  • Coordinate joint integrated supportive supervision, post-training follow-up, clinical mentorship and coaching and using VMMC/EIMC trainers and a pool of proficient providers to ensure peer-to-peer learning and reinforce quality of care. 
  • Maintain and up-to-date VMMC/EIMC providersdatabase for performance monitoring and reporting, and document best practices and lessons learned m implementing VMMC/EIMC capacity building initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent availability of training manuals, guidelines, SOPs, simulation gadgets and Job Aid for smooth implementation of VMMC/EIMC trainings. 
  • Participate in the development and revision of the national YMMC/EIMC guideline and training curricula for use in all VMMC/EIMC trainings. Support incorporation of VMMC and EIMC training and mentorships activities into regional, comprehensive council health plans for sustainability purposes. 
  • Participate in preparing annual work plans, budgets, performance reports and quarterly reports related to capacity building and mentorship portfolio. Responsible for writing regional technical reports, success stories, technical briefs, abstracts for presentations, and updates on the on-going VMMC and EEMC capacity building and mentorship initiatives

  • Bachelor degree in medicine, nursing or some other health-related field with clinical experience in Tanzania. Masters of public health will be an added advantage 
  • Minimum five years’ experience in providing technical leadership in capacity building activities, developing, and implementing HIV/AIDS programs, especially those related to HIV Testing and Counseling, Male Circumcision, quality assurance, treatment and care interventions required. 
  • Strong supervisory and planning skills and experience coordinating a variety of training and mentorships activities in a timely prioritized manner; 
  • Experience as trainer with a strong track record of implementing training strategies and programs. 
  • Experience of working with the National, regional and district health officials. Working with local government officials and government health facilities desired. 
  • Knowledge of PEPFAR funded programs would be an added advantage; 
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse stakeholders and to work independently while being a member of a team.

Other Requirements
Ability to work an irregular schedule on occasion with the ability to travel frequently and on short notice.
Proficient knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
Excellent oral and written English communications skills, Swahili fluency preferred;
