APOPO is a Belgian non-profit organization that develops an innovative method that uses a huge African rat bag (Cricetomys Ansorgei), which is nicknamed "Herorats" to detect mines and tuberculosis with their extraordinary sense of smell.

Currently, APOPO's research curious and motivated technicians join our growing team of fundamental and applied research with a relevant impact on the overall HeroRAT fragrance detection capabilities.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or more in psychology, neuroscience, biology, anthropology or a related field. This requires a lot of attention to detail and previous experience in conducting behavioral research (preferably with rodents). Applicants with prior knowledge are strongly advised to investigate the resulting olfactory learning or discriminatory behavior.

The successful candidate will work closely with the trainer team and research APOPO at our headquarters in Morogoro, Tanzania, where there are also opportunities for our detection and TB detection activities related research.

THE PURPOSE OF THE PAPER

Fully support the APOPO management and research teams.

Provide primary support to doctoral and postgraduate students in the design, execution and evaluation of studies to promote APOPO as a center of competence in the detection of animal odors;

Direct and practical participation in all specified aspects of research at various stages, including session planning, sample preparation and data entry;

Regular and close communication with other members of the research team, including trainers, pattern preparers and supervisors;

Work closely with other members of the research team to identify evolving responsibilities to support the research and activities of APOPO;

Assist in writing, reviewing and submitting manuscripts describing APOPO's research results for publication;

Assisting in the preparation of grant applications seeking funding to support APOPO's research and development activities;

Active participation in scientific discussions with routine research teams;

Assistance in developing research and scientific capacity through training of other APOPO staff

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree or more in a related field or important laboratory experience relevant to learning about discrimination and odor detection by rats

EXPERIENCE

1-5 years of experience in behavioral science

1-5 years monitoring the investigation

Knowledge of the process of creating and publishing scientific manuscripts

Attend all meetings of the management and R & D team to which you have been invited;

Report on new important scientific findings or research opportunities;

Proactive reporting of concerns about research or animal welfare activities;

Identify and recommend opportunities for the development of staff capacity;

Update platform presentations with research and operational results requested by APOPO Management.

2 Provide primary support to doctoral and postgraduate students in the design, execution and evaluation of studies to promote APOPO as a competence center in the detection of animal odors.
